About The Heart and Sole Foundation

Our Mission

We are a student-run nonprofit organization striving to spread awareness about sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes and the increasing need for AEDs. We have held free, simple, life-saving EKG screening events to give young athletes the opportunity to become aware of any heart abnormality. We are also raising money towards the purchase of AEDs for facilities in need.

Upcoming and Completed Events

  • Our first screening event was held at South Side High School on September 27th, 2023.
  • A second screening event was held at the Parish Center at St. Agnes on November 2nd, 2023.
  • On November 25th and 26th, 2023, an iHeartRadio interview featuring The Heart and Sole Foundation was aired to spread awareness about sudden cardiac arrest and the importance of AEDs, reaching over 3 million listeners.
  • On April 6th, 2024, The Heart and Sole Foundation participated in the Kevin Owens Run to Remember charity fundraiser event. Donations to be received November 2024 at the Tommy Brull Foundation event and will be distributed for AEDs.

How To Get Involved

Donate using our GoFundMe to help purchase a life-saving AED. Attend the screening events to protect you and your family from sudden cardiac arrest. Spread awareness about sudden cardiac arrest in young athletes and educate others on the importance of this cause.

AED Donations

AED donated to the John A. Anderson Recreation Center, December 2023.

    Founder

My name is Ella Burbige and I am a senior at South Side High School. As a student athlete who understands the importance of recognizing the symptoms and risk factors of Sudden Cardiac Arrest and knowing how crucial a lifesaving AED is, I wanted to make a difference in spreading awareness to my community. After personally knowing someone who suffered from cardiac arrest on the basketball court and was thankfully saved due to an AED on hand, I started The Heart and Sole Foundation to ensure that more lives would be saved! I am dedicated to educating my community and fellow student athletes on the risk factors and symptoms of SCA, will continue to provide free EKG screenings to detect heart abnormalities, and will fundraise enough money to make sure all facilities in need have a life-saving AED!
